Sir Elton John has teased an upcoming collaboration with rock legends Metallica – is this the musical combo we didn’t know we needed?

The 74-year-old took everyone by surprise as he revealed on his Apple Music show, Rocket Hour: ‘I’ve just done something with Metallica. During this lockdown period.’

We really can’t wait to find out more about this.

The icon added that he also reached out to others to work on new music.

‘I’ve been working with Gorillaz and people like that,’ he added.

“I haven’t been doing any Elton stuff, but I’ve been doing great stuff with other people. So I’ll get you my email, email me and let’s get together and do something, okay?’

Meanwhile, singer Miley Cyrus has revealed that Sir Elton will play the piano on upcoming Metallica cover albums.

In an interview with Capital FM, the 28-year-old said: ‘I did a Metallica cover of Nothing Else Matters featuring Elton John on piano, I’ve got Yo-Yo Ma, Chad Smith; so many all-stars in this band. I’m so excited about this collaboration.”

‘I mean, having Elton John and Metallica and me… I love when ingredients don’t quite fit. Or it seems like a concoction that no one would ever put together,’ she concluded.

The news of Sir Elton’s unlikely collaboration with Metallica comes after he released the first song he and Bernie Taupin wrote together.

The legendary entertainer has made the track Scarecrow available on streaming and digital formats for the first time, along with five other songs and B-sides.

Sir Elton was 20, and Bernie was 17 when they first met after both answering an advert in NME looking for songwriters.

Bernie had already written the lyrics to the song, but Scarecrow is the first time Sir Elton had put his melody to the words, which marked the start of their collaborative relationship, which has lasted over five decades.

Sir Elton said: ‘Scarecrow will always have a very special place in my heart, and I know that Bernie feels the same way too. It’s the song that started it all.’
