Line Of Duty: Is Neil Morrissey the mysterious bearded man?
**Warning: Line Of Duty series 6, episode 2 spoilers ahead**
Things are hotting up in the new series of Line of Duty, and now fans believe they’ve spotted a familiar face returning to their screens – Neil Morrissey, aka Nigel Morton.
Viewers took to Twitter with a new theory on Sunday night after the second episode of series six arrived on BBC One.
The most recent instalment saw Kelly Macdonald’s Jo Davidson grilled by Ted Hastings and the team at AC-12, before being arrested.
After being released, she met with a shady bearded character who left a burner phone for her – but who could the man be?
‘Isn’t this Neil Morrissey + fake beard?’ one fan wrote.
‘So – massive long shot but does anyone think this is Neil Morrissey (Nigel Morton)’ another said, posting a picture of the figure.
Neil’s character Nigel hasn’t been seen on the show since 2016, but could he have made a comeback right under our noses?
It comes after Neil’s co-star Adrian Dunbar previously called for Nigel’s return to the series.
‘I would really like to see Neil Morrissey’s character, Nigel, who’s still alive,’ he told the Radio Times. ‘He’s still out there. He’s still in possession of some information, I’m sure of it.
‘And I’d really like to see him back because more than anything else, he’s probably the best entertainment officer that any group ever had. For that alone, you’d really want Neil to be on the job. So you know, if you could put it out there, please…’
Fans will have to see if the identity of the mysterious figure is revealed in the next episode.
Sunday’s episode saw the investigation continue into the murder of Gail Vella. One piece of evidence which could be vital is a partially downloaded audio clip featuring a familiar voice – and fans believe they’ve worked out who it is.
There’s still so much to be discovered, and we have a serious amount of questions still waiting to be answered.
Meanwhile, viewers were shocked on Sunday when Jimmy Savile became part of the investigation into Gail Vella’s death.
As the BBC crime drama continued, things took a turn when it mentioned a connection to the real-life paedophile ring led by Savile.
Line Of Duty continues Sundays at 9pm on BBC One.
