Alan Carr has revealed that fans are utterly convinced that The Chase’s Anne Hegerty was his mum. Yep, you read that correctly.

The funnyman and ITV quizzer, who is also known as The Governess, once feigned they were relatives as part of a sketch for Stand Up To Cancer in 2016, leaving some viewers believing they actually were family.

‘I like The Chase,’ Alan said, speaking about the game shows he likes to watch in his downtime.

‘Did you hear those rumours, people thought The Governess was my mum? We did a jokey thing and I pretended she was my mum – and then people thought she actually was my mum…’

Stating his interest in Naked Attraction and Tipping Point, Alan continued to PA: ‘Would you say Naked Attraction, is that a game show? Sex is the prize… That’s not a bad prize. I wouldn’t say no!

‘I love a bit of Tipping Point; I sit there and sometimes the dog starts watching it. It’s just like the going in and out and the coins falling, it can be quite trance-like.’

Alan’s series Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow is returning for a second chapter next month after the huge success of its debut, which aired in the first lockdown last spring.

‘We’ve added Name That Tune. I remember that from the distant ages, with Lionel Blair and Maggie Moone, and I was like, “That’s a bit of an odd choice”,’ Alan continued.

‘But then, if you watch the American one, it’s full-on funky band, live singers singing the songs, and it’s so exciting and fun.

‘You know when you listen to the opening few bars and you’ve got to guess what the song is? Oh my God, it messes with your head. But I can’t wait to do that. They test all the gameplay on me. I’m like a gameshow guinea pig.’

The first episode of Alan’s new series will feature celebrity couples Harry and Sandra Redknapp, Nicola Adams and Ella Baig, Martin and Shirlie Kemp and Catherine Tyldesley and Tom Pitfield.

Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow returns on Saturday April 3 to ITV.
