Britney Spears’ dad Jamie ‘files request for her estate to pay his $2m legal fees’
Britney Spears’ father Jamie Spears has reportedly filed a request for her estate to continue paying his legal fees, which are said to total $2million (£1.5m).
The Slave 4 U singer is fighting in court to regain control of her personal and financial affairs from her father Jamie, who has been primarily in charge of her conservatorship since 2008.
Court documents reportedly show that Jamie, 68, has racked up a $2m bill with his own attorneys and other lawyers that have been hired by his legal team.
According to Entertainment Tonight, which has seen the documents, there is also a request that Jamie receives $288k (£209k) including $16k (£11.7k) per month for his role as a co-conservator of Britney’s estate.
Additionally, a request has been filed for $2,000 (£1,450) to cover renting an office space from November 2019 until February 2021.
Jamie stepped down from sole control of Britney’s affairs in September 2019 due to issues with his health.
Jodi Montgomery, a care professional, then replaced him on what has been a temporary basis.
During the most recent hearing into Britney’s conservatorship, her lawyer Samuel D Ingham III told a judge in Los Angeles that he would file a petition to make the appointment permanent and has since filed.
As well as requesting Montgomery be made permanent, Britney has asked her father to resign from his role overseeing her personal life.
The papers say: ‘Petitioner expressly reserves the right to petition for termination of this conservatorship under Probate Code section 1861.
‘Nothing in the within petition shall be deemed to constitute a waiver of that right.’
Britney, 39, has now spoken out about the controversial documentary, Framing Britney Spears, which explored her mental health battle and ongoing conservatorship.
In an Instagram post, the singer explained: ‘My life has always been very speculated … watched … and judged really my whole life !!! For my sanity I need to dance to @iamstevent every night of my life 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼 to feel wild and human and alive !!!’
She continued: ‘I have been exposed my whole life performing in front of people 😳😳😳 !!! It takes a lot of strength to trust the universe with your real vulnerability cause I’ve always been so judged… insulted… and embarrassed by the media… and I still am till this day 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 !!!!
‘As the world keeps on turning and life goes on we still remain so fragile and sensitive as people !!! I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in.’
Britney revealed that the doc had left her emotional, as she said: ‘I cried for two weeks and well …. I still cry sometimes !!!! I do what I can in my own spirituality with myself to try and keep my own joy … love … and happiness ✨🙏🏼 ☀️ !!!!
‘Every day dancing brings me joy !!! I’m not here to be perfect … perfect is boring … I’m here to pass on kindness 💋💋💋 !!!!’
Britney’s lawyer Samuel D Ingham III declined to comment on the ongoing legal proceedings while Metro.co.uk has also reached out to Jamie’s lawyer, Vivian Thoreen, for comment.
