Britney Spears wrote to Sharon Stone with a desperate plea for help during the height of her mental health battle in 2007.

The 63-year-old revealed the Baby One More Time icon, 37, wrote her a ‘very long and important’ letter not long before she was put under a conservatorship, handing over all her legal and financial decisions to her father Jamie Spears.

After Britney named the Basic Instinct star as one of the women who ‘inspires’ her in an Instagram post last week, Sharon appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show where she shared a painful memory of their friendship.

‘Britney wrote to me a very long and important, poignant letter during a very difficult time in her life, about the time when people would recognise her for when she shaved her head, wanting me to help her,’ Sharon shared.

‘And I was in a very difficult time of my life, and I couldn’t help myself. But the truth of the matter is, we both needed help. She needed help, and I needed help.’

While Sharon didn’t open up about the aforementioned struggles she’d encountered herself at the time, the actress did explain it’s not uncommon for women in Hollywood to be ‘controlled’.

‘The true fact of it is, it’s very hard to be a very successful woman and not have everyone controlling you, taking your finances and handling you,’ she continued.

‘I’m sure all of the young stars get handled.’

‘There is a huge breaking point, and there’s a point where you get broken,’ Sharon said.

‘The thing with Britney Spears is so out of control and so awful. And certainly, I can say it’s been very out of control and very awful more than once in my life, and I have certainly had it.

‘And it’s very complicated to take control of your life. It’s very hard to get control of your finances.’

Following the controversial New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears, the singer revealed she ‘cried for two weeks’ and slammed speculation surrounding her life.

The standalone film raised serious questions about the singer’s conservatorship and highlighted how legal system could be abused.

Britney has since filed a suit to prevent her father controlling her finances and personal life.

The Kelly Clarkson Show airs on NBC in the US.
