Spring has sprung and Netflix has plenty of fresh content dropping on the streaming service this April.

Highly-anticipated hows like Shadow and Bone and the Dolly Parton: A MusiCares Tribute are set to be a treat.

With films like Concrete Cowboy, Things Seen and Heard and Thunder Force will provide entertainment no matter what mood you find yourself in.

So here are some of the best new releases coming to the streaming service in April.

Concrete Cowboy (April 2)

Idris Elba and Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin are joined by Emmy nominated star Jharrel Jerome, Lorraine Toussaint (The Village), and Byron Bowers (The Chi) in the feature film.

McLaughlin will play a teenager who is taken to live with his estranged father, played by Elba, in North Philadelphia, and the film will look at the real-life Fletcher Street Stables.

It is there he discovers a rich urban cowboy subculture, thriving despite the low socio-economic nature of the area giving rise to violence and poverty.

Dolly Parton: A MusiCares Tribute (April 7)

Music Icon Dolly Parton was honored in the 2019 Person of the Year tribute concert and now viewers will get to enjoy the celebration.

The special is hosted by Little Big Town and features star-studded performances from Katy Perry, Leon Bridges, Miley Cyrus, Shawn Mendes, Yolanda Adams, and more, plus a performance from Dolly herself.

We’ll also get an intimate look back into Dolly’s life and career, highlighting the moments that have made Dolly into the household name she is today.

Thunder Force (April 9)

Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer team up to fight crime as best friends with superpowers in the new comedy.

Set in a world where super villains are a part of life, scientist Emily (Spencer) ends up crossing paths with best friend Lydia (McCarthy) – although the pair are not on speaking terms.

Lydia ends up accidentally injecting herself with a serum that gives her super powers and together with Emily’s invisibility power they take on the bad guys.

Shadow and Bone (April 23)

Shadow and Bone follows the life of orphan Alina Starkov (played by Jessie Mei Li), who is recruited to become a soldier in an elite magical army known as Grisha.

Alina must learn to hone her powers and turn her gift into a source of good.

More than that, she needs to figure out who to trust, and quickly, as she potentially holds the key to helping her war-torn world from a monstrous threat known as the Shadow Fold.

Throw in those who are all too eager to cause chaos, and Alina is soon in more trouble than she can imagine and needs her wits about her to stay alive.

The series, based on the books by Leigh Bardugo, boasts an impressive cast including Westworld’s Ben Barnes.

Amanda Seyfried stars in Things Heard and Seen (Picture: Anna Kooris/Netflix)

Things Heard and Seen (April 29)

The movie is based on the 2016 book All Things Cease to Appear, by Elizabeth Brundage.

Amanda Seyfried and James Norton star as an artist and her husband who move to the Hudson Valley from Manhattan.

Soon cracks begin to reveal in the house – and their relationship.

Netflix’s official description reads: ‘An artist relocates to the Hudson Valley and begins to suspect that her marriage has a sinister darkness, one that rivals her new home’s history.’
