The Zola trailer has officially dropped – and it’s a bit of a fever dream as fans are treated to their first glimpse of the movie based on the infamous Twitter drama.

For the uninitiated, the film, starring Taylour Paige and Riley Keough, has been years in the making.

In October 2015, Aziah ‘Zola’ King shared a 148-post thread on Twitter about a trip to Florida she took with a stripper named Jessica.

It was honestly the wildest ride, with stars like Missy Elliott and Solange Knowles joining us in getting gripped.

Cut to six years later, and A24 has adapted the story for a film set for release this summer.

The trailer opens with Zola and Jessica planning their trip to Florida, before the infamous opening line to the Twitter thread makes an appearance: ‘Y’all wanna hear a story about how me and this b***h fell out? It’s kinda long but it’s full of suspense.’

As the pair gear up their road trip, Zola is heard saying: ‘From here on out, watch every move this b***h makes.’

Chaos ensues, with Zola’s declaration of ‘messy’ being quite the understatement.

Fans are thrilled, but are very ready for a faithful tweet-to-big-screen adaptation, with one writing: ‘If every single plot point from the zola thread isn’t in the movie, imma act worse than a anime nerd watching a netflix adaptation.’

‘Am I…. going to be able to see ZOLA in a movie theater??????’ another added, with one more writing: ‘imagine one of those classes where you have to read a book and then watch the film adaptation but it’s Zola and the original twitter thread.’

Meanwhile, Zola simply tweeted: ‘WE GOIN TO FLORIDA THIS SUMMER’.

Directed by Janicza Bravo, the movie also stars Colman Domingo, Nicholas Braun, and Ari’el Stachel.

We couldn’t be more ready.

Zola is set for release this summer.
