Alan Wake 2 to be published by Epic Games after bidding war claims source
Not only is there going to be an Alan Wake 2 but there’s apparently been a bidding war for the publishing rights that was won by Epic Games.
Although Finnish developer Remedy has been around for 25 years the only unequivocal hit they’ve had in all that time is the original two Max Payne games. Everything else has had to settle for being a cult favourite, including the likes of Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and the more recent Control.
For years there’s been rumours of a new Alan Wake but while Microsoft still owned the rights it never came to fruition. Remedy got those rights back in 2019 though and now apparently there’s been a bidding war as to who will publish the sequel.
Or at least that’s according to VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, who claimed on Twitch that, ‘I’ve heard that Remedy is going to be making Alan Wake 2 with Epic’.
‘It should kind of be the follow-up that fans of that series want’, said Grubb. ‘I don’t know exactly when they’ll announce it but this is what I’ve heard.’
Although the idea of a bidding war does sound a little odd Remedy has often spoken of their desire to create a new entry in the series, even going so far as to add references to the game in Control.
After Remedy got the rights there were also rumours of a remaster of the original game, and spin-off Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, but that never happened.
If Remedy are on board with reviving the franchise though the chances of a re-release are greatly increased, especially as the originals only came out on Xbox 360 and PC and the sequel would almost certainly be multiformat.
