Trans actor Mareya Salazar has been cast to star in Charmed season 3.

The reboot of the beloved story will see the Canadian and Venezualan star join the adventures of the witch family through the upcoming episodes.

She will play Joséfina, a second cousin of The Charmed Ones, and will make her debut on April 11’s No Hablo Brujeria (which translates to I Don’t Speak Witchcraft).

Headstrong and stubborn, Joséfina will arrive to visit the sisters but will have a mission of her own and secrets she needs to share.

Mareya is still a newcomer to the world of acting, with the character being her first major TV role, and her role was confirmed to celebrate Trans Day Of Visibility.

Joséfina will be a recurring character on The CW series, and will be the second trans actor cast on the show.

JJ Hawkins, who plays Kevin, joined the series as a transgender student at the high school last year.

The latest series of the Charmed reboots, which has been hit with critiques from original cast members Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs, returned to our screens in January.

The series follows sisters Mel, Maggie and Macy, who have all got magical abilities as ‘charmed ones’.

They are guided on how to use their powers by their Whitelighter Harry, as they protect innocent lives.

Unlike the original series, the show explores themes of identity and sexuality, with a more diverse cast as well.
