CSI revival confirmed as original cast members William Petersen and Jorja Fox sign up for Las Vegas sequel
A revival of procedural crime drama CSI has officially been confirmed, with several former stars set to return for the new sequel.
CSI: Vegas, which is due to premiere in 2021 and air into 2022, will follow on from the previous CSI series, which last aired in 2015.
William Petersen and Jorja Fox, who both starred in the very first season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2000, are set to return as Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle respectively.
Fellow CSI alum Wallace Langham, who played David Hodges, will also be reprising his role, while new members of the cast include Mel Rodriguez, Mandeep Dhillon, Paula Newsome and Matt Lauria.
In the description for the upcoming series, it warns that the team will face an ‘existential threat’, which will result in the newcomers having to call on the old-timers for assistance.
‘Facing an existential threat that could bring down the crime lab, a brilliant new team of forensic investigators must welcome back old friends and deploy new techniques to preserve and serve justice in Sin City,’ it states, according to USA Today.
Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment, recalled in a statement how the original ‘groundbreaking’ CSI, which is based in Las Vegas, had such a global impact throughout its 15-season run.
‘21 years ago, we launched CSI and watched in awe as this new cinematic series launched an entire genre and became a groundbreaking juggernaut that still has global resonance today,’ he said.
‘We are thrilled to welcome the next generation of forensic criminalists to the CSI brand and unite them with the legendary characters from the past who we still love, including the extraordinary Billy Petersen and Jorja Fox.’
Jorja celebrated the return of CSI with a post on Twitter, sharing a picture of herself in the show with her co-star William.
‘Viva Las Vegas!! #CSIVegas,’ she wrote in the tweet.
Several fans expressed their excitement over the revival, with one profusely thanking Jorja for agreeing to take part.
‘THANK YOU from the bottom of my morbid little heart for saying yes to this! I’ve been an unconditional fan for 20 years and cannot WAIT to see what Sara gets up to next. You are iconic, and amazing and so damn inspiring. We love you!!!!’ the fan said.
‘I’m super excited to see my favorite series in the world coming back and with you again,’ another replied to the actor.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation airs on Channel 5 in the UK.
