Dragons’ Den: Huge win for NHS staff as business pledging free hand cream for nurses and midwives bags £75k investment from Tej Lalvani
All five Dragons’ Den dragons made offers for a couple whose hand cream product pledges to give a month’s supply to a nurse or midwife in tonight’s first episode of a brand new series.
Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Touker Suleyman, Tej Lalvani and Sara Davies were all eager to get into business with Jonny and his wife Antonia, whose company Nursem has a mission to to give free products to every single NHS nurse and midwife by 2025, and eagerly pitched their proposal.
The couple, who were inspired after pediatric nurse Antonia was signed off work with bleeding hands, sought £75,000 in return for a 1.5% share in their business from the high-flying entrepreneurs, with Peter offering the money with a 10% share.
Touker then offered £100,000 for 10% and Sara proposed £75,000 for 8%, while Deborah and Tej, however, offered all of the money but for 5% of the business. Eventually, the dragons agreed that £75,000 and 5% was the best cause of action, going down to 3% once they’ve got their money back, making it a level playing field for all.
After carefully considering whose investment to take, Jonny and Antonia decided that they wanted to partner with Tej.
‘We’ve decided to accept your offer,’ Jonny told Tej.
‘Seeing the likes of Peter and Deborah, your natural inclination is to want to take their offers because they’re the ones that you know the best,’ he later told the camera.
‘But we did our homework before we went in and we knew all about Tej’s business and I think he’s precisely the kind of person to help move us forward for the next few years.’
What a win for NHS staff!
Dragons’ Den airs Thursdays at 8pm on BBC One.
