Dragons’ Den: Which of the dragons has the highest net worth?
A new group of budding up-and-coming entrepreneurs are showing off their business ideas in the new series of Dragons’ Den.
Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Touker Souleyman, Tej Lalvani and Sara Davies will be ready with open minds (and open chequebooks) to invest in some new start-ups in their lair once again.
But how exactly did these five multimillionaires make their earnings themselves?
What’s more, how much is each of their Net worths?
Here’s what we know.
Peter Jones – est. £490million
Peter Jones, who has been on the Dragons’ Den board since 2005, has accumulated a whopping NET worth of £490million, according to the Sunday Times’ 2020 Rich List.
He started his career in technology companies, launching a personalised computer business when he was just 16.
Since then he has wired with high ranking computer businesses, and has a number of smaller investments.
He now also owns Peter Jones TV, a production team, and the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy to help budding entrepreneurs.
During his time in the Den, he has managed to profit off businesses like Red Letter Days – which sells one-off day experiences for celebrations.
Tej Lalvani – est. £420million
Tej Lelvani earned his millions largely through property investment with his wife.
He was also the CEO of health company Vitabiotics, which was his family’s business.
Tej has lived in London since his teens, having moved from Southern India.
Since then he has been named one of the most influential Asian businessmen in Britain.
Touker Souleyman – est. £200million
Touker followed in his family’s footsteps to become a businessman, and started his career at an accountancy firm before branching out on his own.
Running company Low Profile Group, a small clothing cash and carry business that he then expanded to to acquire businesses including fashion label Ghost, and shirtmaker Hawes and Curtis.
Hawes and Curtis was a particular success of his, taking on the company’s £500,000 debt and turning it around to a multi-million pound company with sales in high street stores such as Marks and Spencer.
He later expanded to focus on sports brands including Tru-Tension, a motorcycling brand, and Bikesoup, an online marketplace for bikes.
Deborah Meaden – est. £40million
Deborah Meaden has been strategic in the building of her empire, and again started at an early age.
Studying business at college, she later tried to open her own glass and ceramics business in Italy at the age of 19.
She later returned to the UK and became a shareholder in Weststar Holidays, and when her share was liquidated in 2007, it was valued at £19million.
Deborah then moved over into the fashion industry, taking over wool company Fox Brothers in 2009, and through that launched clothesmaker The Merchant Fox in 2011.
Sara Davies – est. £37million
Sara Davies is the newest member of the panel and is the founder and owner of Crafter’s Companion, a company she started while at university.
Her biggest success was The Enveloper, a tool that helped make and design bespoke envelopes at home, selling 300,000 units within six months thanks to the Ideal World shopping channel.
The crafting supplies company now distributes all over the world, with headquarters in California and the UK.
She also works as a mentor at the Entrepreneurs’ forum.
Dragons’ Den airs Thursdays at 9pm on BBC One.
