Matt Lucas is one cheeky prankster – and almost had us believing that he had landed a role on Line Of Duty.
The Great British Bake Off host and comedian appeared on The One Show to speak to Alex Jones about his new book on pranks.
But with several hours April Fools’ Day still to go, he couldn’t resist pulling the wool over the team’s eyes – and announced he had secretly filmed a top secret role for an upcoming episode of the BBC detective drama.
‘It’s amazing how they kept it a secret, but I appear in two episodes of Line Of Duty in this series. I play a special policeman,’ he said.
Explaining he hadn’t seen any of the scripts apart from his scenes, or even his own footage because everything was so top secret, Alex ‘surprised him’ with a first look clip.
In the snippet, set at AC-12 HQ, Superintendent Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) is seen grilling the rumoured bent copper, telling him to confess the truth.
Matt then appears, supposedly in the scene, and declared: ‘I’ve got a question for you, which is, what on earth is going on in this show? I watched it last week, and I couldn’t follow it.’
He then threw a policeman’s helmet on the table and said: ‘Also, I’m not wearing this. This looks very cheap.’
Alex and co-host Jermaine Jenas collapsed on their sofas with their heads in their hands as they realised they had been pranked by their pal.
Better keep your eye on the ball next time, lads!
The One Show airs weekdays from 7pm on BBC One.
