Saweetie breaks silence over leaked footage of ‘physical altercation’ with Quavo in elevator
Saweetie has broken her silence about the shocking footage of her appearing to get into an altercation with ex-boyfriend Quavo in an elevator.
Surveillance footage from last year leaked earlier this week, showing Saweetie and Quavo getting into a tussle with each other.
The incident took place at an apartment building where Saweetie was renting in 2020. The US rappers confirmed their split two weeks ago.
Speaking out in a statement released to TMZ, the My Type rapper said: ‘This unfortunate incident happened a year ago, while we have reconciled since then and moved past this particular disagreement, there were simply too many other hurdles to overcome in our relationship and we have both since moved on.’
Saweetie was referring to her recent comments about her break-up with the Migos rapper, where she tweeted: ‘Presents don’t band aid scars and the love isn’t real when the intimacy is given to other women.’
Quavo hit back: ‘I had love for you and disappointed you did all that. You are not the woman I thought you were. I wish you nothing but the best.’
Saweetie replied simply: ‘Take care.’
In the leaked footage of the elevator incident, Quavo is seen dropping an orange case which Saweetie tries to pick up, leading to the pair struggling with each other to get hold of the case.
Quavo is then seen pushing Saweetie to the floor and picking up the case in his hand. The rapper then presses a button and stands looking down as the Best Friend rapper, who remains on the floor.
When the elevator opens, a man appears to be standing outside but he doesn’t get on and the door shuts again. The door then opens on another floor and Quavo starts to get off with the case, while Saweetie gets up and limps off.
Quavo, 29, and Saweetie, 27, began dating in 2018.
In an interview with GQ, Quavo revealed what first attracted him to the rapper and said: ‘I seen her on my Explore page. I was like, “Damn! Who is this?” So I did my research and I DM her.
‘I was like, “How she going to call herself icy and she don’t talk to me?” So I slid in her DM, [and] I told her, “You an icy girl, you need a glacier boy”.’
Saweetie also admitted the attraction was instant with the rapper and told People in January: ‘I liked him before he even knew me. He was my only celebrity crush. I always thought he was fine. I liked his voice. I thought he was sexy.
‘I think the reason why we’ve lasted so long is because we’re like friends who are really, really, really attracted to each other. I think that’s what keeps it fun. It keeps it different. We’re able to really just kick it. Like wherever, whenever.’
