The One Show presenter Alex Jones was left red-faced when she revealed the hilarious comparisons viewers made between her outfit and Mr Blobby while watching the show.
As the latest episode of The One Show came to a close on BBC One, Alex – who was joined on the sofa by co-host Jermaine Jenas – read out tweets that had been coming in from fans.
Several of the posts shared on social media by people tuning in made reference to Alex’s outfit, as she chose to wear a light pink cardigan with a bright yellow pattern covering it.
The cardi strongly resembled the infamous Mr Blobby, who haunted children’s nightmares in the 1990s with his bright pink and yellow polka-dotted costume on Noel’s House Party with Noel Edmonds.
‘I’ve had lots of comments on Twitter thank you very much saying how much I look like Mr Blobby,’ Alex remarked on the show.
She added that at a second glance, she understood why completely, seeing the funny side of the situation.
‘And to be fair, now that you mention it… I mean, can’t help but agree,’ she said.
As Jermaine burst out laughing, he commented: ‘It’s brilliant, I love it.’
‘Why didn’t I see it before I got dressed?’ Alex asked.
‘I did, I just didn’t tell you,’ Jermaine cheekily replied.
Last week, Alex announced on-air that she is expecting her third child with her husband.
‘I mean lockdown has been anything but predictable and we’ve had some really unexpected news – baby number three is on the way,’ she said while hosting the show with Ronan Keating.
The following day, Alex thanked fans for all the support they’ve shown for her pregnancy.
‘Before we start I have to say a huge, huge thank you for all the lovely messages that you’ve sent on our Instagram and our email last night after the news. If you missed it, I’m having a baby,’ she said.
‘But thank you, honestly, I’ve been overwhelmed and I’ve read all of your messages. Thank you so much.’
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
