Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed he had ‘very black moments’ and suffered from panic attacks while in lockdown.

The rock icon shared he had never experienced a panic attack before the coronavirus pandemic, but was later taken aback by the ‘horror’ of one while in isolation.

Speaking to The Mirror, the 73-year-old said: ‘I never used to get panic attacks but recently… yeah.

‘I had some very black moments thinking my freedom is gone and the ability to do anything with my life is gone.’

Brian has also found his ‘soothing agent’ to be a cup of tea, while his ‘secret sin’ are dark chocolate Kit Kats.

He continued: ‘Tea and a biscuit is comfort stuff. I have my secret sin, which are Kit Kat dark chocolate bars which are gorgeous.’

The guitarist has teamed up with singer-songwriter Kerry Ellis for his new single Panic Attack, which they first recorded two years ago.

He has rewritten parts of the song in order to reflect the period of uncertainty during the ongoing health crisis.

Brian explained: ‘We got to New Year realising it is not going to be alright, and it did get worse.’

However, he is also hopeful for the future, adding he thinks it is ‘damn well going to be alright’.

Last year, the rock legend was rushed to hospital after he suffered a ‘small heart attack’ and almost died after his stomach exploded, and he previously revealed he is ‘grateful to be alive’.

Speaking to Charlotte Hawkins and Adil Ray on Good Morning Britain last October, he said: ‘It’s been a big mountain to get up to strength again but it’s become my new religion really.

‘I’m happy to be alive because three years ago, that wouldn’t have happened. I had three stents in me, which are working just fine and I feel good.’

Brian shared he nearly lost his life when he had a reaction to his medication.

‘It was shocking,’ he confessed.

Almost a year on, Brian has revealed he is feeling ‘a lot better’, and has taken up a new exercise regime in order to stay fit and healthy.

Speaking to the Daily Express, he said: ‘I’ve been through a few adventures shall we say. Yes, I do feel a lot better. The best thing probably is it made me much more aware of fitness.

‘I’m absolutely devoted to my physio every day of my life and building up the strength in my heart muscle and the rest of my body as well. It’s actually a pretty good story on the whole.’
