Dancing On Ice 2021 star Denise Van Outen has revealed that she’s ‘managed to escape an operation’ for the awful injury she sustained while taking part in the show, which resulted in her having to back out.

During the early stages of this year’s series of Dancing On Ice, it was announced that Denise, 46, had quit the series after severely injuring her shoulder as the result of a horrific fall.

It turned out that the West End star had fractured her shoulder in three places and so couldn’t continue with her professional skating partner Matt Evers.

On Friday’s edition of This Morning, Denise gave an update on how her recovery is going while speaking via video chat to co-hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

The actor told them that she has been doing several weeks of physiotherapy, saying that she’s been very well ‘looked after’ by ITV.

‘Do you know what, I’m actually not doing too badly. I’ve had seven weeks of physio and they’ve really looked after me at ITV, I’ve got to be honest, with the physio and everything,’ Denise said.

‘So yeah, I’m doing my exercises every day, I’m being a good girl.’

Despite previously fearing that she may require surgery, Denise told the presenting pair that she won’t need to undergo an operation.

‘I’ve managed to escape having to have an op, which is great news. So now it’s just doing the physio and keeping myself moving,’ she said.

Alison jokingly piped up that ‘maybe skating’s not for you darling’, a comment that Dermot said was ‘harsh’.

However, Denise agreed with Alison that ice skating might not be her forte following her experience.

‘It is so hard, I mean it’s harder than I ever imagined, and I wasn’t very good at it,’ she admitted.

Radio presenter Sonny Jay ended up winning the competition, competing in the final against Coronation Street actor Faye Brookes and athlete Colin Jackson.

The series was plagued with a plethora of injuries, accidents and dropouts, including Rufus Hound and Joe-Warren Plant, who both exited after testing positive for coronavirus, and Billie Faiers, who withdrew after suffering a concussion from a fall in training.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
