Lil Nas X tops UK Singles Chart for second time with Montero
Lil Nas X has topped the UK Singles Chart for the second time with his latest single Montero (Call Me By Your Name).
The rapper dropped the highly-anticipated track last week, and its accompanying music video is no doubt his most unapologetic to date.
In the clip, we see the 21-year-old pole-dancing in hell, being shackled by captors in Regency-era wings and giving the devil a lapdance – all while looking incredible in a series of candy-coloured wigs and skintight costumes.
The song has proven to be a roaring success following its release, and was streamed 6.8million times in the UK this week and is the second single to debut at number one this year, following Olivia Rodrigo’s Drivers Licence in January.
It marks Lil Nas X’s second UK number one following 2019’s Old Town Road featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, which spent two weeks at the top of the charts.
The song also experienced similar success in the United States, spending a whopping 19 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking a chart record for the most weeks at the top spot.
Last week’s UK number one, 220 Kid and Billen Ted’s remix of Nathan Evans’ Wellerman, has since slipped to second position in the Official Charts Company rankings.
Justin Bieber’s newest single Peaches featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon holds strong at number three, while Latest Trends by A1 and J1 is at fourth place.
Finishing off the top five is Friday by Riton, Nightcrawlers and Mufasa.
Over on the UK Albums Chart, Ben Howard claimed the top spot with his fourth effort, Collections From The Whiteout.
Justin Bieber’s sixth studio album Justice is at number two, while Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia ranked third.
Rock band Evanescence’s new album The Bitter Truth debuted at number four, and Central Cee’s Wild West completed the top five.
