Tiger King star Carole Baskin has recalled a recent encounter when she believed she was at risk of being kidnapped, saying she’s been ‘scared half to death’ at times when meeting fans.

On Friday’s edition of This Morning, co-hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary caught up with Carole and her husband Howard Baskin over video chat, who appeared in Netflix’s Tiger King alongside former zookeeper Joe Exotic.

Carole is starring in a new documentary with Louis Theroux, during which the filmmaker looks back on meeting Joe a decade ago.

During the interview on This Morning, Alison asked Carole to disclose the most common question she receives from fans, with the big-cat rights activist stating that she’s frequently asked for selfies.

After explaining that she asks fans to stay at least eight feet away from her, as a safety precaution amid death threats and a Covid-safe measure, the 59-year-old revealed that just a few weeks ago, she had a terrifying scare.

‘There’s been cases where they have really scared me half to death,’ Carole said of meeting her fans.

‘I ride my bike five miles each way back and forth to work, and I was coming home just a couple of weeks ago, this big dark SUV with tinted glass windows ran me off the road.’

Carole emphasised that some of her fans will ‘run me off the road to get a selfie’.

When the dark SUV ‘ran her off the road’ a couple of weeks ago, Carole said that ‘everybody jumped out’ of the vehicle, with ‘all the doors’ of the car open.

‘Everybody jumps out and starts running toward me, and I thought I was being kidnapped. It was just everybody with their phones out and asking if they could get a selfie,’ Carole added.

Despite their intense feud, Carole and Joe have actually had limited face-to-face interactions, with Joe currently serving a 22-year sentence in prison for animal abuse and the murder-for-hire plot of Carole.

During the Baskins’ interview on This Morning, Howard recollected meeting Joe during a deposition, explaining that his ‘approach has always been just to be professional’.

‘Even Joe said “Howard’s always treats me with courtesy”,’ he added.

Howard explained that during one deposition, their attorney was showing Joe ‘page after page of these horribly sexually-orientated posts that he had made about Carole and Joe was sheepishly saying, “Yes, I posted that, yes I posted that”.’

‘And we took a break and we both ended up going to get a bottle of water at the same time, and Joe looks at me and says, “Nothing personal”,’ Howard said, before sardonically stating, ‘Right’, with an eye roll.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
