Everybody’s Golf studio releases first non-PlayStation game in 20+ years

Studio Clap Hanz has a new golf game on the Apple Arcade, ending two decades of exclusively working on PlayStation consoles.

While it is strictly an independent studio, Clap Hanz has always had strong ties to Sony, with its Everybody’s Golf series releasing exclusively on PlayStation consoles.

You would think that its next game would be an Everybody’s Golf for the PlayStation 5 but, instead, Clap Hanz has branched out and released a new game on the Apple Arcade.

Titled Clap Hanz Golf, this is the first non-PlayStation game in the studio’s history, ending a 20+ year streak. But while this new game bears more than a few similarities to the Everybody’s Golf series, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the series is over or that Clap Hanz will no longer make games for PlayStation consoles.

Clap Hanz is classified as a second party studio, so while it may have a close relationship with Sony it’s always been free to make games for whoever it wants.

The sudden diversification could have something to do with how lenient Sony has become recently regarding its games on other platforms. Only last year, the company announced that it had plans to bring some of its exclusives to PC.

Sony is even publishing this year’s MLB: The Show baseball game for Xbox consoles – the first entry in the series to release for non-PlayStation consoles since the series started in 2006.

The release also comes shortly after Sony effectively dissolved its Japan Studio, part of what is perceived to be a refocusing of its efforts on Western markets and away from Japanese-published games.

Whether that’s had any bearing on Clap Hanz’s decision is impossible to say but at least fans of the developer’s previous work now have a reason to check out Apple Arcade.

Clap Hanz Golf is available now for Apple Arcade.
