Having grown up with the world’s eyes on her, Angela Simmons knows how hard it can be for young women in the industry.

However, the Run’s House star is thrilled to see the stars such as singer Chloe Bailey choosing to showcase confidence in their bodies and owning their sexuality despite the vocal backlash on social media.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, the 33-year-old explained: ‘No matter what era we are in, there will always be people that have an opinion about how sexy a woman can be or can’t be, or what someone should or shouldn’t be doing.

‘They are just haters, people with their own opinions, but the most important thing is to change the narrative. I thought it was brave for Chloe Bailey to stand up for herself when she went through for being sexy.’

She continued: ‘Chloe isn’t afraid of what others say. It’s important to stand up for who you actually are versus what people say you are because they can’t paint your picture for you.

‘You need to tell people who you are. I feel it’s important to just stay true to yourself whatever that looks like.’

Before forging her own path as a businesswoman and philanthropist, the world was introduced to Angela in 2005 as part of MTV’s reality series about her family, Run’s House. T

Since then she’s become known as one of the stars and executive producers of VH1’s Growing Up Hip Hop, as well as a successful entrepreneur.

Having experience years of public comment about her looks and her life, the Growing Up Hip Hop star explained how she learned to cope with strangers having strong opinions about how she chooses to live her life.

The Simmons Beauty founder explained: ‘I definitely feel like there are high standards that people want to hold me to and tell me who I should be you… even down to what I wear or what I may post. There’s always an opinion about it.

‘It isn’t fair but I just learned to shut it off. As I live my life, I’m not coming home to these people. Being a woman of faith makes people hold you to a certain standard – because I’m a Christian and my dad is a reverend – but I’ve just always just been a woman of my own pace. I’m gonna march to my own drum, not theirs!’

Fans of the Pastry Shoes designer will now get a chance to learn more about the star in her unscripted series, Just Angela, Magic Johnson’s AspireTV network.

Opening up about what viewers can expect, the mother-of-one stated: ‘This show is different because this is more personal and diary style. I’m giving you guys a behind-the-scenes look into my life.

‘This is me telling you who I am versus like a narrative being painted or anything like that. It’s full of stuff I wouldn’t be able to normally highlight, mommy stuff, entrepreneurial stuff and even things like skincare.’

In addition to giving an exclusive look into her everyday life, Just Angela will also spotlight up-and-coming Black-owned businesses and encourage fans to support their products by shopping at the aspireMKTPLC online marketplace.

Just Angela airs Tuesdays at 9pm ET on AspireTV.
