From kettles to ovens — can you guess which appliance is the most expensive to run?

MILLIONS of Brits are confused by their energy use — with just one in ten aware an electric shower is the most expensive appliance to run.

A quarter think the kettle is the most costly, a third believe it is the tumble dryer and 14 per cent say it is the oven, a poll by Utilita found.

In fact, after the shower, heating is the most expensive per hour, followed by a fan-assisted oven and then a kettle.

Six in ten Brits believe their bills have gone up “noticeably” over the last 12 months, as most of the nation has been confined to their homes.

The study also found more than half would be more careful if they knew the true costs.

A Utilita spokesperson said: “Really, the cost-per-hour of most electronics is fairly minimal, so it’s easy to ignore them.

“But when added up – or used over a substantial period of time – we can really see the difference in our energy spend, if we’re paying attention.

“When it comes to energy, knowledge is power.

“The more data you see about your home’s energy usage, the more money you save.

“It’s really as simple as that.”
