Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King praise Nischelle Turner over her history-making role as first Black female ET anchor
Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King couldn’t be happier for Nischelle Turner after she became the first Black woman to anchor Entertainment Tonight.
The TV titans took time to acknowledge Nischelle’s history-making appointment when she stopped by OG Chronicles last week, and the ladies made sure to give the presenter her flowers – as the cool kids say.
Discussing the fact Nischelle — who co-hosts the show alongside Kevin Frazier — is the first Black woman to anchor the nightly broadcast in ET’s 40-year history, Oprah gushed: ‘That deserves a round of applause! So well deserved!’
Her BFF Gayle agreed as she added: ‘Well deserved. This is not just a job. You earned it!’
Oprah then revealed she’s been a viewer of ET ever since it launched as she recalled: ‘Gayle and I were in those Mary Hart years… so when you received this deserved honour, [it] acknowledged all the women who came before you as also significant.
‘Because I often say, “There wouldn’t have been a me had there not been a Phil Donahue.”‘
To which Nischelle graciously replied: ‘And there wouldn’t have been a me without the two of you. I appreciate that more than you would ever, ever know.’
When the news of Nischelle new role was announced, Oprah literally did send over a huge bouquet of flowers to acknowledge the achievement.
Sharing a snap on Instagram, Nischelle wrote: ‘When @oprah sends you a life affirmation, an “I see you moment” and a reminder to stop and smell the roses all rolled up into ONE BIG BODACIOUS BUSHEL OF BEAUTY 🥺🥺🥺
‘I’VE NEVER IN MY LIFE SEEN SOMETHING MORE STUNNING! Fresh flowers are my very favorite thing and everywhere I look in my office is a reminder of what’s peaceful to me.’
She continued: ‘Oprah says the love is in the details and God has been busy because I’m getting this love in abundance… Thank you so much Oprah for your class, grace and ever present example of EXCELLENCE.
