Pose season 3 trailer: Pray Tell’s death confirmed as Angel and Papi get married?

Pose’s first-look trailer for the upcoming season 3 finale is here in all its queer glory – and it’s going to be one hell of an emotional rollercoaster.

FX dropped a teaser for the Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals drama on Tuesday night, just weeks after it was confirmed that the next chapter would be the last.

The two-minute sequence begins with Pray Tell (played by Billy Porter) reflecting on his ballroom career, before breaking down to Blanca (Mj Rodriguez) about the state of his health leaving fans fearing his death.

‘I knew this disease would eat me alive, but I’m not going out without a fight,’ he cries.

Set to Aretha Franklin’s A Deeper Love, viewers also got snapshots from the final series, which included a wedding scene that appears to be Papi (Angel Bismark Curiel) and Angel’s (Indya Moore).

Elsewhere, Blanca has become a nurse working in a hospital.

‘It’s about our legacy,’ she declares, while sat around the table with her chosen family trying to convince them to return to the ballrrom.

‘We rose from the bottom and we became stars. When we walk together we make a statement.’

Fans have been busy sharing their thoughts about the trailer on social media, with many worried that Pray Tell might not make it out alive.

‘So sad this is the last season 😢 why do I feel like Pray Tell is gonna die,’ wrote one.

Echoing a similar sentiment, another added: ‘Just saw the trailer for Pose and I swear if Pray Tell dies lordyyyyy I’m going to ugly cry this season.’

It was confirmed in March that Pose season three would mark the end of the groundbreaking LGBTQ+ show.

Co-creator Murphy said: ‘We got to tell the exact story we wanted, as we wanted to tell it, and I’m incredibly honoured and grateful. Pose’s story may end in 1996, but its impact will go on forever.

‘Pose has been one of the creative highlights of my entire career. From the very beginning when Steven Canals and I sat down to hear his vision and ideas for the show, it has been a passion project. To go from the beginning of my career in the late 90s when it was nearly impossible to get an LGBTQ character on television to Pose — which will go down in history for having the largest LGBTQ cast of all time — is a truly full circle moment for me.’

Fellow creator and writer Falchuk added: ‘I am more proud of this show than anything else I have created – or ever will create. I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.’

Co-creator Steven Canals said that Pose was borne of the idea that he should write the TV show he wanted to watch.

He continued: ‘At the time we weren’t seeing very many Black and Latinx characters — that happened to also be LGBTQ+ — populating screens. And so I wrote the first draft of a pilot the “younger me” deserved.

‘Pose was conceived as a love letter to the underground NY ballroom community, to my beloved New York, to my queer & trans family, to myself. I, along with my incredible collaborators, never intended on changing the TV landscape. I simply wanted to tell an honest story about family, resilience, and love. How fortunate am I to have done that for three seasons.

The final season of Pose debuts May 2 in the US.
