The Syndicate recently returned for series four on BBC One, introducing viewers to a betting syndicate who are cheated out of a massive, life-changing lottery win.

In the new season of Kay Mellor’s show – which stars Line of Duty’s Neil Morrissey, Gaynor Faye, Katherine Rose Morley and Joe Sugg – a group of dog walkers win an unbelievable £27million in the lottery after joining forces… but are told they only won a few hundred.

Their local shop owner then jets off seemingly with their winnings in tow, travelling from Yorkshire to Monaco to no doubt make the most of his stolen millions.

Despite being filmed during the pandemic, the makers of The Syndicate managed to travel around a fair bit to authentically capture the different locations in the drama, from the north of England to the French Riviera.

So where did filming take place? Here’s all you need to know.

Where was The Syndicate filmed?

Actor and scriptwriter Kay, the creator of The Syndicate, was born and grew up in Leeds.

She wanted to ensure certain areas of Yorkshire were included in the new series, which she decided to set in a market town.

‘There were parts of Yorkshire I wanted to touch on, like Otley and Ilkley and Burley in Wharfedale. The area is so beautiful but not many people shoot there,’ she told RadioTimes.com.

‘I’ve shot a lot in Leeds…I wanted to show off somewhere else. That’s why I picked The Chevin and Ilkley Moor and all round there.’

Several scenes in the new season were filmed on The Chevin, a ridge on the south side of Wharfedale in Leeds.

The series also includes Burley, a village in Bradford, as well as Ilkley Moor in West Yorkshire and the market town of Otley.

Although Monaco is an extremely luxurious setting to boast in the drama, Kay admitted that she originally wanted to film in Las Vegas.

Nonetheless, Monaco proved a ‘relevant’ setting for the story, with the Monte Carlo Casino and five-star establishment The Hotel Metropole being featured.

Kay said that filming at the hotel was a ‘great experience’ as they took in its beautiful opulence.

The Syndicate airs tonight at 9pm on BBC One and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
