Piers Morgan claims Meghan Markle ‘put huge pressure’ on ITV bosses over his Good Morning Britain outburst
Piers Morgan has claimed Meghan Markle ‘put huge pressure’ on ITV bosses over his Good Morning Britain outburst.
The outspoken host, 56, sparked an instant backlash last month when he took aim at the Duchess of Sussex’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which she opened up about struggling with suicidal thoughts and depression while in the Royal spotlight.
Appearing on GMB hours later, he stated that he didn’t believe a word she said, with more than 57,000 people complaining to Ofcom over the scenes – including the former Suits actress herself – which led to his departure from the show.
Speaking about his exit in an interview on Extra this week, Piers told Billy Bush: ‘It was certainly a very interesting revelation from where I sit, because clearly she was trying to put huge pressure on my bosses to take action against me.’
As well as this, he also alleged that members of the Royal family have approached him with their ‘gratitude’ for ‘standing up’.
While the former newspaper editor wouldn’t divulge names, he continued: ‘I’ve had some messages communicated to me on behalf of several members of the Royal Family.
‘I’m not going to go into who it was. But what I would say is, gratitude that somebody was standing up.’
Despite their fractured past, Piers would still be keen on a sit down interview with Meghan and Prince Harry in the future, similar to their tell-all with Oprah.
He added: ‘I would say to Meghan Markle, “Look, sit down with me, with your husband for an equally long interview and let me ask you more difficult questions about all your claims.
‘”But let me ask you a wider question, which is this; if you hate the Royal Family that much, why do you keep your royal titles? Why do you keep calling yourselves the Duke and Duchess of Sussex?
‘”Why would you do that if it’s just not to make millions and millions of dollars? And playing the victim as you do is frankly nauseating.”‘
