WWE legend CM Punk has again teased fans about a potential in-ring return.

The retired wrestler – who revealed back in January he was back in the squared circle on the set of Stephen Amell’s upcoming drama Heel – has now added further fuel to the fire.

Punk claimed he took two ‘light’ spinebusters from retired NFL star James Harrison, which sent fans into a frenzy.

He tweeted: ‘Just took two of the lightest spine busters I ever took from @jharrison9292 and I’m MAD about it.’

True to form, the former world champion offered no further context to the mysterious moment, although he did have time for a tongue in cheek reply.

Asked if he kicked out of the move, he quipped: ‘At 1.’

Back in January, Amell nearly broke the internet when he shared a rather sweaty photo alongside Punk, and revealed the latter had been back in a wrestling ring.

He tweeted: ‘Please welcome @CMPunk to @HeelsSTARZ — He was a little rusty in the ring yesterday, but I assured him it was just like riding a bike. (sic)’

Punk previously opened up to Renee Paquette about what it would take to get him back in the ring, as he insisted there needs to be an interesting scenario to spark a return seven years after his acrimonious departure from Vince McMahon’s.

And while it doesn’t necessarily seem likely, there is some hope.

Indeed, Renee herself suggested it would be a ‘shame’ if her pal didn’t lace up his boots for one more run.

Opening up on his passion for the wrestling business, she exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think it would be an absolute shame if he did not come back. Like you said, that passion is still there! He’s a wrestler! He is a wrestler through and through.

‘Whether he was busy doing movies or TV shows or other aspirations that he has, I think at the end of the day wrestling is the thing that makes that guy tick.

‘I think for him to not come back in some capacity, whatever creative he ends up working out that he really wants to do – I think ultimately, that that’s what it would come down to for him, is finding that great creative.’

Renee’s well placed to give a bit of insight into Punk’s mind, having been a big part of him returning to the business as a guest host on WWE Backstage – which ran from from November 2019 to March 2020, with a special return in January for the Royal Rumble – in one of the most shocking wrestling moments in recent memory.

She added: ‘That whole experience was really, really fun. I wish that we could have kept the show going long and kept working together, because it really was a lot of fun getting to work with him again.’
