DMX has reportedly ‘not regained any brain function’ since he was hospitalised following a heart attack.

TMZ had reported that the rapper, 50, whose real name is Earl Simmons, had been admitted on Friday as the result of an alleged overdose.

Their sources now claim that DMX has not gained any brain function after ‘being deprived of oxygen for nearly half an hour’ and he is said to remain in a coma.

The insider also claims the results of a battery of tests on the music star are ‘not good’, with his family reportedly asking his long-time friend and manager Steve Rifkind to fly to New York to see him.

The site also reports that hundreds of people had turned up outside the hospital he is being treated at in New York on Monday for a prayer vigil, including his fiancée Desiree Lindstrom, his children and the mothers of some of his 15 children.

Only a limited number of family members have been allowed into the hospital to see DMX in the intensive care unit due to the ongoing coronavirus restrictions but his manager previously revealed that family were waiting for the results of tests and ‘would determine what’s best from there.’

The family released a statement through their publicist, saying: ‘On Friday night, April 2nd, 2021, our brother, son, father, and colleague DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, was admitted to White Plains (NY) Hospital, facing serious health issues.

‘We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges.’

Murray Richman, DMX’s attorney, said in a statement: ‘He had a heart attack. He’s quite ill. I’m very sad about it, extremely sad. He’s like my son.

‘He’s just a tremendous person, tremendous entertainer, tremendous human being. And so much to offer, so much to say. Not the run-of-the-mill rapper. A person of great depth.’
