Warning: spoilers ahead for episode three of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

In episode three of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, viewers hear about a new character called the Power Broker… who’s yet to show their face.

After Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) head to the fictional island of Madripoor with the villainous and unpredictable Baron Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl), they’re told that the Power Broker is in charge of the lawless region.

With the help of former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), who’s been hiding out on the island, they track down a scientist called Dr Wilfred Nagel (Olli Haaskivi) who worked for the Power Broker, creating a super-soldier serum under their orders.

So who is the Power Broker in the Marvel comics and – if a fan theory is to be believed – could it be Sharon?

Who is the Power Broker?

In the Marvel comics, the Power Broker is a name adopted by a man named Curtiss Jackson, who was first introduced in 1978.

Climbing the ladder in the criminal world, the Power Broker eventually creates a company called Power Broker Inc, through which he offers paying customers the chance to augment their strength using special technology.

With the help of a scientist in his employ, Curtiss boosts the strength of wrestlers, taking advantage of their newfound superhuman abilities to place bets on their matches.

The Power Broker, who it turns out is in cahoots with the Red Skull, also has a run in with the US Agent and Battlestar, who appear in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier as John Walker, aka the ‘new’ Captain America (Wyatt Russell) and his wingman Lemar Hoskins (Clé Bennett).

After dying at the hands of the Punisher, the Power Broker alias is taken on by a new, mysterious successor.

A wild fan theory has drawn the conclusion that the Power Broker’s introduction in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier could mean that the show is representative of the Power Stone, one of the six Infinity Stones.

Is Sharon Carter the Power Broker?

Following Sharon’s arrival in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, some fans have speculated that she could turn out to be the Power Broker.

Let’s look at the facts – as she’s on the run from the law in the US, Sharon has sought refuge in Madripoor, a region where a person with her particular set of skills could likely become quite an influential figure.

We don’t really know what she’s been up to since we last saw her in Captain America: Civil War, so for all we know in that time her alliances and priorities may have changed.

Plus, she does have a pretty fancy apartment for someone who one would presume has limited resources as an outlaw.

Of course, we hope Sharon hasn’t gone bad, considering she’s the niece of the iconic Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), not to mention a fantastically heroic character in her own right.

But there is definitely something shady going on, as Sharon lets slip when she says bye to Bucky, Sam and Zemo and greets an unknown individual at a car.

‘We’ve got a big problem. Actually a couple of them – I’ll tell you in the car. Let’s go,’ she says.

What is Sharon’s secret?

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is available to watch on Disney Plus with new episodes released on Fridays.
