The March Madness 2021 has come to an end, but it had a lot of iconic moments. Right from the first roudn to the final, every game was action packed and was memorable in its own way. Let’s look at the top five moments from this year’s NCAA tournament.
Jalen Suggs hits one of the greatest shots in tournament history
A buzzer-beater is always a great way to win the game. But to pull off one from half court, in overtime, in the Final Four of the tournament, that makes it legendary. Gonzaga Bulldogs‘ Jalen Suggs did just that, after what was arguably the best game of the tournament.
The UCLA Bruins gave the Bulldogs a scare but Suggs rescued them with his game winner and and it instantly became of the best shots in the history of the tournament.
Baylor beats all odds to win the March Madness 2021 title
The Baylor Bears upset the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the final, despite never being given a chance. Most of the predictions were against them, with a lot of them not even predicting them to enter the final. But the Bears just used this as motivation, and played their hearts out in the final to win the title. It is the Bears’ first title in college history.
101-year-old Sister Jean Inspires Cinderella Run
March Madness is iconic for its upsets. When unfavored teams make deep runs they are called Cinderella runs. So when Loyola entered the Sweet Sixteen by beating Illinois, it was a big achievement for the college. The Fighting Illini were the favorites, and the Ramblers outclassed them.
Their chaplain, Sister Jean, a 101-year-old nun who accompanied the team became famous because of their wins and she became an icon.
Johnny Juzang lights up March Madness 2021
The Pac-12 teams barely received any recognition entering the tournament, and the UCLA Bruins made everyone pay for their ignorance. They reached the Final Four, thanks to a sensational campaign from sophomore Johnny Juzang. He averaged 22.8 points per game in the tournament, including two terrific games against powerhouses, Michigan and Gonzaga.
He might have come in as a nobody, but he left the tournament as an icon.
Dream run for father-son duo, Buddy and Jim Boeheim
The Syracuse Orange entered the NCAA tournament as a #11 seed, not expecting to leave a mark. But they made it to the Sweet Sixteen thanks to their father-son duo of Buddy and Jim Boeheim. The Orange were led by Buddy in scoring, while Jim the head coach was leading the team from the sidelines. It was a huge moment for them as well as for Syracuse basketball, as the Orange made a memorable run.
