Lola Lennox frolics around LA in dreamy Wherever You Go music video produced by mum Annie Lennox

Lola Lennox certainly knows how to make the most of a warm summers’ night in Los Angeles.

The singer, daughter of music icon Annie Lennox, has debuted the music video for her new single Wherever You Go exclusively with Metro.co.uk and it’s an absolute dream.

Directed by Emmy-nominated and award winning South African director Natalie Johns and choreographed by Sadie Wilking, the visuals explore Point Mugu, Mulholland Drive and the LA city by night.

It follows Lola and her friends as they embark on a road trip through the day and into the night, before dancing amid a concrete jungle of sprawling traffic and city lights, and then watching the sunrise from the ocean’s edge, where dawn breaks against the blue and grey hues of waves and sky.

Lola said of the video: ‘I am used to the feeling of having my heart in two places. It’s a transient emotion that stretches across cities and oceans.

‘I wrote Wherever You Go about missing people. I moved to LA a few years ago, leaving behind friends, family and memories. Whilst navigating a new life in America, I clung to the people I left behind; losing them was a hard part of growing up and pursuing my dreams in music.

‘Despite the song reflecting the challenges of longing, I wanted the music to feel positive and express the excitement that comes with having people in your life to love. Managing long-distance relationships is a lesson in letting go and being receptive to whatever outcome life hands you; that openness is the place the music came from.’

She added: ‘Over time I’ve seen how the message of Wherever You Go has evolved whilst the world has changed so much. In 2020, we all had to adapt to a life far apart from those we love.’

Wherever You Go follows hot on the heels of Lola’s previous singles, Back At Wrong and La La Love Me.

Lola may have a famous mum – Eurythmics frontwoman Annie – but she’s previously laughed off the claims of nepotism, telling us in December: ‘I have been able to put my toe in a door but I’m never going to be able to get through the door unless the music and me as a human hits a certain level.

‘No one’s going to play my music on the radio if it doesn’t hit a certain mark.

‘So my theory of how to navigate my way through that is let the songs speak for themselves. If the music’s good enough then I deserve a place here.’

The 30-year-old continued: ‘I think I felt more pressure than artists who… I’ve had this balancing act between confidence and knowing myself and a bit of insecurity and having to reach a certain bar.’

Lola is musically inspired by the 60s, 70s and Motown era and cites the likes of Nina Simone and Etta James as the artists she looks up to – she has a particularly special love for Stevie Wonder who she first met when she was seven.

Summing up her sound, the singer said: ‘I always want to channel this emotionally-drenched energy through the songs. I write songs that are sad and poignant and then also songs that uplift you.’
