Former star of The Apprentice Luisa Zissman broke down in tears on This Morning while talking to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford about having her dead pet horse stuffed, explaining that she ‘couldn’t bear to never see him again’.

Earlier this week, Luisa, 33, revealed that after her pet horse Madrono died, she arranged for taxidermist Simon Wilson to have him stuffed.

The entrepreneur said that she felt ‘overwhelming heartbreak’ when her horse died, and so ‘seeing him again’ after his death was ‘incredible’.

On Thursday’s edition of This Morning, Luisa spoke to Eamonn and Ruth via video chat about why she decided to preserve Madrono, crying as she recalled the sadness she felt when he died.

Luisa, who appeared on The Apprentice in 2013, explained that when she first bought Madrono, she was aware that he had melanomas, ‘cancerous lumps’.

After a couple of years of owning him, he required treatment, with Luisa doing ‘every single cancer treatment you can do on a horse’.

However, after learning that the lumps were growing internally, Luisa learnt that nothing else could be done to save his life.

‘And so there was really nothing I could do and I had to have him put to sleep,’ she said.

As Luisa began crying, Ruth tried to comfort her from the ITV studio, saying: ‘I’m sure you did your best by him, but you couldn’t bear to be without him, could you? So this is when you made this decision to have him preserved.’

Describing her own crying as ‘embarrassing’, Luisa said: ‘I suppose everybody deals with grief in different ways, and he’s so majestic and he’s so beautiful and I think I just couldn’t bear to never see him again.’

After wiping away her tears, she added: ‘I don’t know how to describe it, I just wanted him forever.’

Earlier on in the show, Eamonn and Ruth debated having their own dog Maggie stuffed after she dies, with Eamonn saying he’s ‘very much in favour’ of the idea.

Ruth, on the other hand, was not having it at all, saying that she ‘can’t think of anything worse’.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
