Peaky Blinders season 6 filming pictures have confirmed that viewers will see the return of Esme Shelby.

Tommy Shelby’s (Cillian Murphy) no-nonsense sister-in-law, who is played by Aimee-Ffion Edwards, has been spotted shooting explosive scenes for the upcoming final part of the acclaimed BBC crime drama.

In new photos from the set, Esme was seen chasing her brother out of a graveyard as the pair had a showdown as they filmed near Bacup in Lancashire this afternoon.

Another snap showed Tommy battling the elements as he stood in his typical formal three-piece suit near a grave.

Esme’s dramatic comeback will be welcomed news for fans as she last appeared in Peaky Blinders in series four where she was left devastated by the death of her husband John Shelby (Joe Cole), who was killed by the Italian mafia as they sought revenge against the Peaky Blinders.

In her final scene, she took off John’s rings before informing him that she would be taking her children on the road ‘to live with decent people’.

Filming for the upcoming sixth season resumed in January following a year-long delay due to the coronavirus.

At the same time, creator Stephen Knight confirmed the new series would be its last.

‘Peaky is back and with a bang’, he said. ‘After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher.

‘We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.’

Last month, filming pictures showed Cillian’s Tommy was joined by Paul Anderson’s Arthur Shelby as they made their way to the historic St George’s Hall.

There were also pictures of a tense confrontation between anti-Fascism protesters and police in response to fascist leader Oswald Mosley, played by Sam Claflin – who made his debut in season five.

Peaky Blinders is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
