Warning: major spoilers ahead for episode four of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Marvel’s Falcon and The Winter Soldier descended to a level of brutality rarely seen in the MCU in episode four, with ‘new’ Captain America John Walker (Wyatt Russell) losing control and committing an atrocious act in full view of the public.

This bloody show of violence has prompted some fans to speculate that gritty Marvel series such as Daredevil and The Punisher could end up finding a new home on Disney Plus, having previously been cancelled by Netflix.

In November 2020, the film and TV rights to Daredevil reverted back to Marvel Studios from Netflix, with the rights to The Punisher following just a few months later.

The same has also gone for Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist… after each show being given the axe by streaming giant Netflix.

While there hasn’t been official confirmation yet that Marvel is going to bring the characters back, there have been rumours that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is going to appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home and Marvel series She-Hulk, starring Tatiana Maslany as the titular character.

And now with the ‘new’ Captain America using Cap’s symbolic shield to bludgeon a member of the Flag-Smashers to death in broad daylight, some reckon this could be a sign that Disney Plus may be prepared to revive Daredevil and The Punisher and all the violence that comes with the vigilantes.

After witnessing the final frame of the episode, where John is holding Captain America’s bloodied shield, one Falcon and Winter Soldier fan tweeted: ‘So purely based on that ending today Disney+ does go dark enough to allow for a season 4 of Daredevil.’

‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a helluva show. I love a series when the villains all have a pretty solid point. Not holding back on the violence either. It’s giving me hope that Moon Knight, Daredevil, and some other shows will work on Disney+,’ another said.

‘After episode 4 of #FalconAndWinterSoldier with what John Walker did, I am officially convinced we are going to see a Daredevil, and The Punisher series on Disney plus,’ a viewer stated.

Someone else wrote: ‘I doubted that they were capable of such quality but I mean now I’m fully confident in their ability to bring very mature TV to Disney+. Hell I’d trust them with a Daredevil s4.’

Meanwhile, another viewer summarised their view succinctly by writing: ‘I think the demand for a Daredevil series on Disney+ just went up. #FalconAndTheWinterSoldier.’

One fan expressed their hope that Jon Bernthal’s merciless Punisher will cross paths with John.

‘This episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier got dark and I can see Daredevil and The Punisher fitting in nicely with the tone they’re going for from this point on. Big sigh of relief,’ another stated.

John’s murderous act occurs in Falcon and Winter Soldier after the soldier witnesses the death of his right hand man, Lemar Hoskins, otherwise known as Battlestar (Clé Bennett).

Having recklessly injected himself with a vial of super soldier serum, John chases after a member of the Flag-Smashers, the anti-patriotism group that stole the serum from the mysterious Power Broker.

In a fit of rage, he smashes Captain America’s shield into the defenceless man as members of the public capture it all on film.

Will Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) now take back the shield that Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) bestowed upon him at the end of Avengers: Endgame?

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is available to watch on Disney Plus with new episodes released on Fridays.
