Mena Suvari and husband Michael Hope have welcomed their first child together.

The actress, 42, announced she was pregnant last year and she gave birth to son Christopher Alexander Hope earlier this month.

A representative confirmed the happy news to People, saying: ‘Both baby and mom are doing wonderfully.’

The American Beauty star announced she was pregnant to the US publication in October, adding that finding out the news was a ‘very emotional experience’.

She said at the time: ‘It’s still this process for me of believing it and accepting that something this beautiful could happen for me.

‘It’s been a very emotional experience. It’s very weird finding out – I was like, I can’t believe it!’

Mena and Michael got married in 2018 and began trying for a baby last year, however, she admitted it wasn’t the easiest time: ‘I was recording my temperature every morning and peeing on these ovulation sticks.

‘You expect that it’ll happen and it didn’t. I got to this place where I felt overwhelmed and stressed out.’

She added that she felt pressured to conceive because of her age: ‘I’m 41 and there’s an air of, like, I’ve got one foot in the grave and good luck.

‘I was like, I can’t do this anymore. I’m so tired of stressing over this. I was trying to feel like if it’s meant, it’s meant. I was being really open like the Aquarian that I am – if this is my path or not.’

Mena started to notice her body changing and learned she was expecting her first child.

And in the end she learned to trust her own body: ‘Even in my late 30s, I had people questioning me. It put a lot of fear in you.

‘It took a lot of work to really pull back from that and really believe and trust in my own body and where I was at, have my own journey with it.’
