Despite having broken multiple bones while doing them, Tom Cruise has said he’s been told to stop smiling so much while completing stunts because he loves them so much.

And this is how we’re very, very different from Tom Cruise.

Sure many other stars may tap in seasoned stunt doubles to take on the more gruelling part of their job, but when it comes to Mission: Impossible star Tom he’s not giving up the rough and tumble of the action scenes without a fight.

However, he’s been told to stop showing such excitement when completing the rigorous stunts on set.

The Hollywood star, 58, who has been filming sequel Top Gun: Maverick told The Graham Norton Show ahead of tonight’s episode: ‘I am a very physical actor and I love doing them.

‘I study and train and take a lot of time figuring it all out. I have broken a lot of bones.

‘The first time of any stunt is nerve-racking but it also exhilarating. I have been told a few times during shooting a stunt to stop smiling.’

We wonder if he was still smiling after famously breaking his ankle mid-scene and still carrying on?

He said of reprising the famous role of Maverick he first brought to life in the 80s classic: ‘It was just that moment when I thought, “If I’m going to do this, now’s the time”.’

Tom went on: ‘Being here is the first time I have been out of the film bubble – this is just incredible.

‘From the moment we were in lockdown I have been working seven days a week almost around the clock because we were finishing Top Gun and prepping Mission Impossible.

‘They shut down Mission and said we wouldn’t film for another year, so I had to figure it out.

‘We worked with governments, doctors and our crew to keep everyone working – I haven’t had that banana bread moment yet.’

The latest Mission: Impossible 7 had been dogged by various production delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, with controversial audio emerging allegedly of Tom berating crew for breaching on-set social distancing rules.

The film has been slated to be released on November 19, 2021, three years after Fallout – the last film in the franchise – came out, while Top Gun is scheduled for release July 2021.

The Graham Norton Show airs on BBC One on Friday at 10.45pm and is also available on BBC iPlayer.
