Is the TV schedule back to normal following Prince Philip’s death?
On Friday April 9, it was announced that the Queen’s husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, had died at the age of 99.
In a statement released by the royal family, it said that the royal ‘passed away peacefully’ at Windsor Castle.
In the wake of the announcement of the Duke’s death, TV channels altered their schedules to pay homage to him with special news broadcasts, documentaries and obituary programmes, with some shows, including the final of MasterChef, being postponed.
TV channels have continued to pay tribute the following day with special tributes and documentaries looking back on the royal’s life.
So what TV shows are on tonight and is the schedule back to normal?
BBC
From 10am until 2pm on Saturday April 10, the BBC aired a special news programme on Prince Philip ahead of the Rugby League Challenge Cup.
Going into the evening, programmes previously on the schedule are still going ahead, including Celebrity Mastermind at 6.05pm and new music game show I Can See Your Voice at 7.20pm.
On BBC Two, a couple of shows have been shifted slightly later than originally planned, due to programmes such as Saturday Kitchen Live and Football Focus being moved over from BBC One earlier in the day.
This means that Gardeners’ World will now air at 8pm, while the opening night of the Bafta Film Awards will be shown at 9pm, an hour later than initially scheduled.
There’s no word yet on when the MasterChef final will be shown, having been due to air on Friday evening.
ITV
Over on ITV, timings for the evening’s programmes remain largely unchanged, with the celebrity special of Catchphrase going ahead at 6.30pm, followed by Game of Talents at 7.30pm and Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow at 8.30pm.
However, while the Jonathan Ross Show was originally meant to air at 9.35pm, it will now be shown at 10.05pm following ITV News, according to the ITV schedule.
This week’s guests on The Jonathan Ross Show include Oti Mabuse, Jimmy Carr, Daisy May Cooper, Martin Kemp, Roman Kemp and James Arthur.
Channel 4
This evening on Channel 4, Grand Designs is being shown at 5.10pm, followed by the Channel 4 news an hour later.
From 7pm, an hour-long programme on the life of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh will air, followed by the third instalment of The Royal House of Windsor at 8pm, which explores ‘how Prince Philip was the Windsors’ most radical moderniser’ in the 1960s.
Channel 5
After the Channel 5 News at 6pm, the rest of Channel 5’s schedule appears to be going ahead as normal, with programmes including Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out in Wales at 6.10pm, Jane McDonald’s Weekends Away at 7pm and a docu-series about Winston Churchill at 8pm.
We Love Dad’s Army follows at 9pm, with Britain’s Favourite 70s Comedy with Jo Brand completing the day’s schedule at 10.30pm.
