Line of Duty star Martin Compston’s The Nest ‘axed by BBC’ after just one series

LINE Of Duty star Martin Compston’s new drama The Nest was “axed by the BBC” after just one series.

The drama – which follows a married couple who are unable to conceive before turning to an 18-year-old to be the surrogate – was axed due to Covid-19, reports claim.

This is despite pulling in eight million viewers when it aired in spring 2020.

An insider told the Daily Star: “It was decided they wouldn’t commission another run of The Nest.

“The show was a really big deal for Martin. It was his chance to prove he can be a star away from Line Of Duty. And while he gave a great performance, it wasn’t enough.”

Another added: “It is much harder to make shows at the moment because of all the restrictions.

“All channels are having to prioritise some shows and ditch others. The Nest is a casualty of that.”

BBC viewers followed the story of Dan Docherty (played by Martin Compston) and his wife Emily (Sophie Rundle) who have tried nearly every route possible to have a baby.

Dan was not keen on adopting, and Emily was physically unable to have children.

The couple therefore decided to use a surrogate, using frozen embryos.

Emily has a chance encounter with a young woman called Kaya.

Eventually, Kaya becomes involved with the couple’s difficulties to conceive, and ends up offering the couple to be the surrogate.

However, we later find out that Kaya has some significant skeletons in her closet, involving a very dark past.
