Baftas 2021: Bukky Bakray and her family had the best reaction to her major Rising Star win

Bukky Bakray's family had best reaction to her Bafta win

Bukky Bakray and her family had the purest reaction to her big win at the Baftas on Sunday night.

The actress, tuning in from home, was named as this year’s winner of the EE Rising Star award for her standout performance in Rocks.

Clearly stunned at hearing her name read out Bukky went wide-eyed in shock as her family could be heard celebrating in the same room.

She was then hugged by her family members, including her mum who looked equally over-the-moon.

Bukky thanked her fellow EE Rising Star nominees as well as her Rocks ‘family’ and her mum and siblings.

She said: ‘Thank you god, thank you to my mum, my brothers, thank you to the rocks family, I’ve never met women like you in my life.’

To the other actors in the category she said: ‘Thank you for taking up space with me.’

The star also paid tribute to the rapper DMX – who died on Friday after suffering a heart attack – and those who died during the pandemic, adding: ‘Sleep well to everyone who died this year and last, and went to bed infinitely. It is the love and light you left on this earth that is holding us all here today.

‘To the nominees I have to show my love, I love you so deep.’

The awards took place in London with all the nominees attending virtually.
