Benedict Cumberbatch to lead cast of Netflix series The 39 Steps
Benedict Cumberbatch is set to star in upcoming Netflix series The 39 Steps.
The Doctor Strange star will lead the cast in the new adaptation of John Buchan’s thriller novel, which takes place in the lead up to WWI.
The story focuses on Richard Hannay, an ordinary man who is mixed up in a global conspiracy surrounding 39 steps that will alter the world.
Benedict will play the character, who is forced to go on the run after unintentionally becoming involved in an international spy ring, Deadline reports.
The novel has previously been adapted for film four times, including the acclaimed 1935 version directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
The new project will be directed by Edward Berger, and is thought to consist of six hour-long episodes.
The 39 Steps is set to begin filming in Europe next year, with a script written by The Revenant’s Mark L. Smith – who previously worked with Benedict on Patrick Melrose.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Benedict apparently improvised an iconic scene as Doctor Strange in Avengers Endgame.
Doctor Strange 2 fans are also pretty convinced that Google may have just dropped a major spoiler when it comes to an MCU crossover in the upcoming film.
Last year, it was confirmed that fans would be seeing Benedict back in action as Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon turned great sorcerer, in a follow-up film to the first Doctor Strange movie that arrived in 2016.
