Line Of Duty series 6 cliffhanger gives fresh teaser about DCI Joanne Davidson’s ‘blood relative’
Warning: Article contains spoilers
Line of Duty has dangled another infuriating cliffhanger in front of our faces with episode four, as it ended on the verge of revealing who AC-12 target DCI Jo Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) is related to.
At the end of Sunday night’s episode DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) presented new findings to Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) based on DNA found at the flat of PS Farida Jatri (Anneika Rose) – who has been incriminated as having links to organised crime.
After DS Chloe Bishop (Shalom Brune-Franklin) revealed they had proof DCI Davidson planted burner phones at her ex-girlfriend’s, Steve came forward with a more ‘significant’ finding after forensics were carried out at Farida’s flat.
He said: ‘As we know sir, officers’ samples are stored on the system to exclude contamination of crime scenes.
‘Now an officer’s DNA isn’t speculatively examined on a routine basis, it certainly wasn’t back when Davidson joined the force. Because the DNA deposit detected at the house were assumed to relate solely to a police officer, they were compared against the whole system.
‘The analysis detected partial matches to a nominal whose DNA is stored on other police databases. It’s identified over the page.’
As Ted opened the file to find out what he was referring to, Steve continued: ‘As we know sir, there’s only one credible explanation for Jo Davidson’s DNA matching this individual – they’re blood relatives.’
Of course we didn’t see who had been identified in the file, we only witnessed Ted looking completely stunned by the revelation.
‘Mother of god,’ he said as the episode came to an end.
Fans have been wracking their brains as to who Jo could be related to, with many thinking that her mum (whose picture she threw a drink at in episode one) is Anne Marie McGillis, the mother of DS John Corbett (Stephen Graham) from series five.
However new names have cropped up, such as Jackie Laverty (Gina McKee) who was murdered by the OCG in series one, and DI Lindsay Denton (Keeley Hawes), AC-12’s target in series two.
Other viewers put forward Tommy Hunter (Brian McCardie), the OCG leader from series one who blackmailed DCI Tony Gates (Lennie James).
However this theory we find very interesting…
The episode also saw the brief return of jailed lawyer Jimmy Lakewell (Patrick Baladi) from series four, who was then murdered in prison by OCG member Lee Banks (Alastair Natkiel).
Line of Duty airs Sundays at 9pm on BBC One.
