Line of Duty series 6: Martin Compston reveals hilarious ‘reviews’ from parents as Steve Arnott ramps up action
Warning: spoilers ahead for series six episode four of Line of Duty.
Line of Duty star Martin Compston has shared the hilarious ‘reviews’ his parents gave him after watching Steve Arnott come under heavy fire in series six episode four.
In the latest instalment of the BBC crime drama, Steve has an iconic hero moment while facing a seemingly unescapable attack.
After retrieving series four lawyer Jimmy Lakewell (Patrick Baladi) from prison to help with the investigation into the murder of journalist Gail Vella (Andi Osho), the convoy is ambushed, with the white van containing Steve and Jimmy tipped over on its side as a shoot-out ensues.
Steve manages to shoot a sniper positioned above the van, with his shot helping to bring an end to the onslaught.
While viewers loved Steve’s brush with danger, with some even comparing the police officer to James Bond, Martin’s parents were somewhat divided with their responses.
‘The most important reviews are in from my parents. My maw “incredible son absolutely loved it” my Da “it had an interview scene and car crash ya prick”. keeps ye humble,’ Martin tweeted after the episode aired, alongside a couple of cry-laughing emojis.
The actor’s Twitter followers were absolutely loving his parents reactions, with one person responding: ‘Keeping it real!’
‘Difference between Mum’s and Dad’s summed up right there,’ another fan wrote with a laughing emoji.
‘Dinnae get too big fur yer boots son!!!’ someone else remarked.
Another Twitter user responded: ‘Nothing like parents to keep you grounded lol. Fantastic episode! Killer having to wait a week for the next one!’
‘That’s scottish parents if i ever did see them. Translates approximately as “we love you son and are very proud”‘ someone else added.
While the shoot-out had viewers on the edge of their seats, one of the other most shocking moments of the episode came at the very end, when it was revealed that Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) has a ‘blood relative’ of significance.
In the final scene, Steve presents new findings to Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) concerning DNA that was found at the flat of Farida Jatri (Anneika Rose), who was previously romantically involved with Jo.
Steve reveals that the DNA of Jo uncovered at Farida’s flat matches someone else, stating: ‘As we know sir, there’s only one credible explanation for Jo Davidson’s DNA matching this individual – they’re blood relatives.’
‘Mother of god,’ Ted says as he looks at the document, with the episode ending before viewers could find out who the person in question is.
Line of Duty returns next Sunday at 9pm on BBC One and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
