Good Morning Britain’s weather presenter Alex Beresford, 40, has sent tongues wagging with a hint that he might be joining the cast of Strictly 2021.

Recently reports surfaced that revealed bosses of the dancing show are keen to have Alex and fellow weather presenter, Laura Tobin, for this year’s series.

Adding fuel to the fire, Alex teased his 255k Twitter followers with a cheeky tweet.

‘Do I need to brush up on my 2 step and shuffle?’ He posted to his account.

His post caused a stir amongst his followers, who expressed how eager they were for him to join the show.

‘Definitely…look forward to watching you shake & glide across the strictly floor,’ one person penned.

‘Wow, you will be a natural dancer. Shake those hips Alex. Yes go for it.’ Said another.

Alex’s popularity seems to be rising ever since his on-air discussion with former-GMB host Piers Morgan, in which they disagreed over Meghan and Harry’s bombshell Oprah interview.

Laura, 39 – who has worked on the ITV show since 2014 – hasn’t appeared on any reality or TV competition shows before either.

It’s been claimed that the shows producers would love to see Alex and Laura on the show to help with audience figures.

A BBC source told MailOnline: ‘Strictly bosses like having an ITV daytime star as they help with audience figures, being really well-known. Viewers wake up to them every day.

‘Laura and Alex are well-liked and would make good signings. It is still early in the process but both their names are in the mix.’

It was recently revealed that the BBC is reportedly planning for the 2021 series to resume its full 13-show run this autumn after the show was reduced to just nine weeks due to Covid restrictions in 2020.

BBC declined to comment when contacted by Metro.co.uk.
