Line of Duty series 6: Subtitles let slip vital clue pointing to Jo Davidson’s relative
*Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Line of Duty*
Line of Duty’s huge cliff-hanger has captivated viewers ever since arriving on Sunday night, as fans speculate about who the mysterious blood relative of DCI Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) could be.
Fans have been rewatching the episode and going over it in painstaking detail to try to work out whose photo Spt. Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) was shown at the end of episode four.
Viewers learned that Jo is related to another person found in the police records – and they discovered a vital clue via the BBC’s subtitles that narrows things down.
The moment came after forensics searched Farida Jatri’s (Anneika Rose) flat and found DNA that matched a mystery person known to AC-12. Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) confirmed that the findings confirmed that Jo is related to another person on the system.
We’ll have to wait until the true identity is revealed, but there is one thing the show seemed to confirm – the person Jo is related to is a man, with Steve saying ‘he’ was identified in the findings.
While it wasn’t initially clear from the audio, the subtitles certainly clear things up.
Viewers took to social media after the subtitles showed the relative was male, pointing out their detecting work using the BBC subtitles.
‘Had to turn on subtitles to check it’s a “He”. Wow. This series gets better and better,’ one wrote.
‘If you use subtitles for the end of the episode, Steve says “He’s identified over the page,”’ one said.
Fans were quick to speculate about who Jo could be related to after the episode aired – see all the rumoured names here.
Elsewhere, Line of Duty viewers also believe there’s one key detail that many might have overlooked on first viewing involving Jimmy Lakewell (Patrick Baladi).
Line of Duty continues on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
