Susanna Reid cut short her break from Good Morning Britain to appear in the studio in person and pay tribute to Prince Philip on Monday morning.

The presenter had been on her Easter holiday when the Duke of Edinburgh died on Friday at the age of 99. It was announced on April 9 that Philip had died peacefully in his sleep at Windsor Castle.

Susanna appeared next to Kate Garraway on this morning’s programme, saying it was an ‘honour’ to be back to present the special tribute show to the Duke.

‘Today of course, we are remembering, honouring and celebrating the life of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh,’ she told viewers.

‘And it’s an honour to be here early this morning to be able to do that beside you Kate’.

Susanna’s Easter holiday break usually lasts two weeks. Her previous appearance had been on March 31, meaning she wasn’t scheduled to return until April 19.

Kate asked her during the show: ‘You were meant to be on holiday weren’t you?’

Susanna replied: ‘Yes, but it’s a very special occasion’.

Kate continued: ‘Very special moment where everybody wants to mark the moment and everyone’s had thoughts over the weekend I think about that’.

Despite the tribute, some viewers criticised the presenters for not wearing black on today’s programme following Prince Philip’s death.

Meanwhile, Susanna has been a mainstay on Good Morning Britain since 2014, and she could be about to play an even more significant part in the future.

It was previously reported that the ITV show is not planning to replace Piers Morgan anytime soon, with a focus on Susanna taking centre stage.

Good Morning Britain also paid tribute to the late Big Brother star Nikki Grahame on today’s show, with Susanna stating it had raised a ‘very important issue about eating disorders’.

Nikki died aged 38 on Friday morning following a life-long battle with anorexia. She had been getting treatment for her eating disorder at a specialist clinic, fundraised by her fans and friends.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
