American Idol: Contestant Wyatt Pike unexpectedly quits show ‘for personal reasons’ after making it into top 12
American Idol was full of twists and turns last night as contestant Wyatt Pike quit the show.
The singer had made it through to the final 12 of the season, but Monday’s live show began with Ryan Seacrest announcing that Wyatt had chosen to drop out.
Ryan stated: ‘Before we get to the results, I have to tell you that finalist Wyatt Pike will not be competing in the competition.
‘He had to drop out, but we wish him the very best.’
Indeed, last week saw the 20-year-old post photos on Instagram which confirmed he was back in his home in Park City, Utah.
He captioned a snap of the snowy landscape with the cryptic caption: ‘Something to feel this through: home. Thankful for the rollercoaster I’m on today. 💙’
A rep for American Idol told People: ‘Wyatt could not continue due to personal reasons.’
Sunday’s pre-taped episode saw his last performance on stage and he delivered his rendition Kings of Leon smash hit, Use Somebody.
Judges Katy Perry told him: ‘I think you do have a little bit of an angle in this competition that you’re an authentic singer-songwriter. I think whatever happens, you’re it.’
Luke Bryan added at the time: ‘I remember one of the coolest things ever happened to me is the day I realized that I get to do music forever, under any circumstance. I’m telling you, Wyatt, you are going to be able to do music for the rest of your life.’
‘You have a style on stage that we like to watch,’ Lionel Richie added. ‘And to watch you take that song and make it your song, you’re on your way to something big, my friend.’
American Idol airs on Sundays and Mondays.
