Idris Elba’s mum is convinced he will be the next James Bond but he is ‘good’ playing Luther: ‘The rumours have always chased me’
Idris Elba’s mum believes he will be named as the next James Bond when current star Daniel Bond leaves the franchise – and you should always trust a mother’s instinct.
A slew of actors have linked to the part such as Bridgerton star Rege-Jean Page and Outlander actor Sam Heughan.
The actor insists he is ‘good’ just playing detective Luther in the hit BBC crime drama, but his mum says he has 007 in the bag.
Speaking to Capital Xtra Idris acknowledged the rumours about Bond have ‘chased’ him for a while now.
He said: ‘I know the rumours about Bond have always chased me. Listen, my poor mum is like “One day you’re going to get it!” I was like “Mum, I’m good, I’ve got Luther”. I’m definitely doing that.’
Daniel will be appearing in the upcoming Bond movie No Time To Die which has been delayed once again until October.
It was bumped back from its original release date of April 2 until October 8, 2021.
Before then it was pushed back from April 2020 to November as the coronavirus pandemic hampered the film industry last year.
The film stars Rami Malek as Bond villain Safin as well as Lashana Lynch, Ralph Fiennes and Ana De Armas.
Idris is looking ahead to the film version of Luther, which he revealed is still on the way.
‘The Luther film is definitely coming, I’m very excited. For the fans that have watched five seasons of Luther, I owe it to them to take it to the next level, and that’s where the film comes in,’ he said in his interview.
The BBC series followed Idris’ maverick detective and was last on our screens in 2019.
