Morgan Wallen has revealed his plans for the summer after taking time out from the spotlight to ‘work on himself’ after receiving backlash for using a racial slur.

The country music star, 27, revealed that he wants to take even more time to work on himself before returning to touring after he was caught on camera using the N-word.

He took to Instagram to share four-page hand-written note to his fans to say that he would not be performing any shows or festivals over the summer.

Morgan wrote: ‘2020… Man, what a tough year for so many. For me, my tough year carried into 2021. I’ve made some mistakes, I’m figuring those out, and I apologised because I was truly sorry and have been making my amends.

‘I wanted to let you guys know that I’ve taken a couple months away and feel like I’ve really worked on myself. I’m proud of the work I’ve put in, and in many ways thankful to have had the time to do it. I’ve needed this time off.’

He continued: ‘I moved to Nashville at 22. I never really gave myself a chance to survey the man I became during that time. I can already see a big difference between 22-year-old me and 27-year-old me.

‘I hope there’s a big difference between the 27-year-old me now and the 32-year-old me one day. I will always strive to be better.

‘Not only has this time revealed to me the ways in which I want to improve, but it’s also reminded me that I am still very proud of who I am and the man I am becoming.’

Morgan added that while the time off has been ‘very valuable in many ways’, he needed ‘a little more of it’ so had made the decision not to perform any concerts or festivals over the summer months.

After the video of him using the N-word emerged in February, Morgan was dropped from radio playlists and streaming services and suspended indefinitely from his label, Big Loud Records.

Morgan apologised for the incident, which was filmed by someone across the street from his home in Nashville, Tennessee, as he returned from a night out.

He said in a statement at the time: ‘I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back.

‘There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologise for using the word. I promise to do better.’
