MasterChef star Gregg Wallace even refuses to give spoilers to his mum ahead of final: ‘It’s a big deal and you just keep schtum’
MasterChef star Gregg Wallace takes his role as judge very seriously when it comes to spoilers, and refuses to even tell his family who won a final.
The cookery competition – which is filmed in advance – thankfully returns tonight (April 14) having been delayed by a week, and will see contestants Mike Tomkins, Alexina Anatole and Tom Rhodes compete to be crowned MasterChef champion.
Gregg and his co-judge John Torode appeared on The One Show on Wednesday to talk up the final episode of the series, which fans have been waiting (im)patiently for.
When asked if he ever worried about slipping up and accidentally revealing the champion ahead ahead of time, Gregg insisted that he kept it zipped, not even revealing to his mum – despite her constantly asking him.
Telling hosts Alex Jones and Rylan Clark-Neal that it is the ‘most asked’ question he gets from people he meets, he continued: ‘My mum nags me every series, I never slip up, I don’t suppose John does either.
‘You know it’s a big deal and you just keep schtum.’

Meanwhile John praised everyone who took part for delivering such a high standard of cookery this series.
He said: ‘We had lockdown, we had time for people to stop and be courageous and go out and explore and do a bit of soul searching.
‘People went into the kitchen to find a place of constants, you felt comfortable, it became a bastion of sanity.
‘The food has been incredible, we’ve eaten the odd dodgy thing but on the whole its been alright.’
