The Bachelor’s Colton Underwood sends message to ex Cassie Randolph after coming out as gay: ‘I’m sorry for the emotional stress I caused’
The Bachelor alum Colton Underwood has publicly apologized to his ex Cassie Randolph about the way their relationship ended, after he revealed he is gay in a new interview.
Wednesday morning Good Morning America saw the reality star speak his truth about his sexuality in an emotional chat with Robin Roberts.
After confirming he is a gay man, the 29-year-old took the chance to address his ex Cassie – who was the winner of his season of The Bachelor.
Sending a message to his ex following their rocky split – which saw Cassie file for a restraining order against the former NFL star – he stated: ‘I’d like to say sorry for how things ended. I messed up. I made a lot of bad choices.’
Colton revealed that he was indeed in love with her as he continued: ‘That made it harder and more confusing for me. If I’m being honest, I loved everything about her and it’s hard for me to articulate exactly what my emotions were in going through that relationship with her was, because I obviously had an internal fight going on.
‘I would just say that I’m sorry from the bottom of my heart. I’m sorry for the pain and emotional stress I caused. I wish it wouldn’t have happened the way it did.’
The reality star also had a message for the women who competed on his season of the show as he stated: ‘I thought a lot about this. Do I regret being The Bachelor and do I regret handling it the way that I did? I do. I do think I could’ve handled it better. I just wish I wouldn’t have dragged people into my own mess of figuring out who I was.
‘I genuinely mean that, but i also at the same time, I could sit here and say “I’m sorry” to all of those women, but I can also say “thank you,” because without them, and without The Bachelor franchise, I don’t know if this would have ever came out.’
The star first joined Bachelor Nation during Becca Kufrin’s Bachelorette season in 2018, making it to her final four.
He then had a fling with Tia Woods on the fourth season of Bachelor in Paradise before being picked to lead season 23 of The Bachelor in 2019.

The star’s virginity was a huge topic of conversation in the series which saw him ultimately give his final rose to Cassie Randolph.
The pair dated after the show wrapped before announcing their breakup in early 2020.
Cassie went on to file a restraining order against Colton, accusing him of stalking and harassing her by putting a tracking device on her car.
Colton later released a statement explaining that the former couple had resolved their issues in private and Cassie later dismissed the restraining order, requesting the police investigation be dropped.
